Ashley joins CBC Radio’s Matt Galloway to discuss Brexit
Ashley Prime has a wide ranging senior British diplomatic career both in the UK government and in the private sector in London and overseas. He has spent most of his time in China and Italy, most latterly in Canada. He worked in Beijing at the point when China was opening up in the 1980s, returning in the 1990s to open and run the UK’s new Consulate in Guangzhou. He was the lead during the initial Foreign Office response to the 9/11 attacks. As well, he set up and ran the first British Government’s Inward Investment section to specifically attract Chinese investors to the UK.
He has worked twice outside the diplomatic service, including helping a UK company expand their interests within the European market. Until recently, he spent over five years working in Toronto including supporting UK companies enter the Canadian market as well as helping Canadian companies to open UK operations. He has maintained close contacts with Canada, including being on a number of Canadian-focused boards in London. Whilst in Toronto he was a regular on both radio and television and remains well known in the city. A linguist, he speaks French, German, Italian and Mandarin.
