• Twitter and Public Policy: Federal Budget 2010

In the week leading up to its tabling, Twitter was abuzz with comments on the federal government’s imminent 2010 budget-tabling. When coupled with excitement over the return of Parliament and Question Period that same week, the result was an increase in the volume of discussion about federal politics on Twitter.

What made this budget day exceptional was that for the first time in Canadian history, the Department of Finance tweeted its budget announcements in real time.

Navigator analyzed the Twittersphere’s reaction to Finance’s first foray into this space, and gauged the online community’s reaction to the budget in general. Navigator reviewed 1000 comments in order to inform the analysis presented in this note.
